Nike is apparently dismantling (firing) the hardware team behind the FuelBand fitness tracker. The company reportedly fired between 70 to 80% of the 70-person hardware team on Thursday.
Don't quote us on these numbers because so far this is only being read on social networks. We have not communicated directly with Nike or read official comments from Nike.
Although I do not have any facts to support this, I would like to mention that it is possible that Nike was happy with their own product, but concerned with what Goolge, Apple, or some other tech giant has coming out in the near future.
Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, did not have spectacular success. Is it possible that wearable tech does not do as well at retail as many companies would like?
